Labor law

Labor law regulates the relationship between an employer and an employee. When an employment relationship is entered into, rights and obligations follow. If these are violated, a labor conflict can arise. For example the termination of a work agreement, reorganization or a conflict about maternity leave or vacation days.

Social security law

Social security law regulates the social provisions and social insurances which people can claim. It ensures that people still have sufficient income during incapacity for work, illness, pension problems or unemployment.

Tenancy law

Tenancy law deals with the relationship between landlord and tenant, which is regulated in tenancy agreements. Problems that can arise between landlord and tenant include conflicts about the rent, the duration of the tenancy agreement, possibilities for terminating the agreement and overdue maintenance or dangerous situations in the building.

Personal and family law

Personal and family law occurs in all phases of life, from before birth to after death. It focuses on relationships, parenthood and children. It deals with divorces, custody and other important matters concerning the family and children such as recognition, adoption and birth, and descent.

Administrative law

Administrative law regulates the relationship between citizens and government bodies, and specifically what the government must adhere to when making decisions. Think of subsidies or permits, but also the awarding of benefits and fines. These decisions can often be appealed or objected to.

Immigration law

Immigration law is part of administrative law. Think of admission and deportation of non-Dutch citizens. Within immigration law, a distinction is made between asylum law and regular immigration law. Asylum law regulates situations in which someone cannot return abroad for safety reasons. Regular immigration law regulates immigration that does not fall within asylum law, such as family reunification and residence based on having a job or studying in the Netherlands.
